Partial Refunds and Echecks

If a supplier needs to issue a partial refund on an order that was placed using an online check they should be sure to wait until the sale has reached deposited status before doing so. This will ensure that the order deposits correctly and the refund is issued correctly.

What products or services can be sold using a check?

All products or services can be sold using electronic checks, with the exception of recurring products or services. It is up to each supplier to decide if accepting an online check fits their business needs.

Who can pay by check?

Anyone with a US personal or business bank account.

What if I have a membership site or downloadable product, can I accept checks?

Yes you can. In order to protect you, the supplier, the buyer will be sent back to the pending URL instead of the Approved URL. This will allow you to provide instructions for the customer that they can follow after the check has cleared.

Will I be able to tell the difference between a check and a credit card order in the admin area?

Yes. The order details will indicate if it was a check or a credit card sale, and whether or not the check cleared.

How does check acceptance work?

Buyers are given the option to pay by credit card or check. If the buyer pays by check, you receive a notification that a sale went through, like usual. You are, however, advised that you should not process the sale further until the check clears. Checks take a minimum of 3-4 business days to clear. Once the check clears, you and the buyer will be notified. If the check fails to clear, both parties will also be notified.

How much does check acceptance cost?

If the check clears the bank, you pay 5.5% and $0.45 per transaction.

If the check does not clear the bank, you do not pay the 5.5% or the $0.45 transaction charge, but you do pay the following fees.

Non-sufficient Funds - $5

Bad check (bad account number, account does not match buyers info, etc.) - $5

Does 2CheckOut accept other forms of payment from customers, such as online checks?

Yes. We accept online checks, but only for buyers with a check drawn from an account in the United States.
