Avoiding multiple clicks on buy now button

Hi,
I have a “buy now” button configured to send to tue Single purchase page.

It takes a couple of second to load, and often customers click multiple times on “buy now” button, resulting in over quantity of purchased product.

Since I don’t want to rely on scripting to avoid this, isn’t there a way for 2co to prevent this, like paypal does automatically ?

Thanks,
Benj

Hello Benj, I have been doing some testing and I see there is about a 2 second delay while the browser loads the page. This will vary depending on the customers internet connection speed. I will forward your request to our developers to see if there is something they can do to prevent a customer from clicking the button multiple times. Scripting may be involved to lock the button down to 1 click only and if this is the case would need to be placed within your HTML code as the button that redirects the customer to our pages is located on your web server.

Benj - Have you tried adding the fixed parameter to your purchase links? This will also be a easy solution to your issue. Add the fixed parameter with a value of Y to your link and the quantity will be locked to 1, regardless how many time your customers click the button.

Excellent, this is exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks,
Benj

In fact, since the quantity of purchase is set on 2co page, I see no reason why more than 1 unit should ever be passed to the 2co page.

Of course my remark is valid for single buton purchase, not shopping card where customer can set quatity before reaching the 2co page.

Some of our vendors like to allow the customer to select the quantity of products they wish to purchase on their website and then pass the quantity to our cart system. This can be done with our single button purchase plug and play system. Some vendors also store the products on their site and pass the plug and play information all at once. Sometimes passing multiple products and quantities at once so the customer does not need to edit them once on our pages. This is simply a personal preference of the supplier who runs the web site.

hi joel,

got to your site after another duplicate order and saw that thread.

the newly added “fixed” option is good but it is not a perfect solution, it is like an unfinished feature.

the right solution would be if when the customer proceed to your website, the quantity won’t be locked but will remain updateable with 1 as the initial value, so as long as the user stays on your website the user can change it.

if you check any other site e.g. paypal it is the case.

what you added now (i’ll use it for sure since i had a flood of duplicate orders lately) is ok for most sales but occationally a user may want to order more than one license, then when he enters your website the amount would be “1″ but afterwards he should be able to update it.

maybe to extend the scope of values, e.g. to add “I” (initial) value of the “fixed” parameter so the amount will remain updateable but will always start with the “quantity” field value as the initial value.

thanks,
alex

Thank you for your suggestion. We will submit your request to our developers for consideration. Your customers can purchase more than one license when using the fixed parameter as it locks the quantity that is passed in. You may have the customer enter the quantity on your site and use the fixed parameter to lock the quantity in the purchase routine.

Indeed, this refinement would make the feature better.

Yes, the quantity could be set on the website, but sometimes the value other than 1 is very very rarely needed, still occationally it is needed.

Thus amount could be a non-needed option for 99% of users, since you already have the amount column, just locked, unlocking it would make the whole process totally seamless with minimal number of options, simplicity is always the best choice.

I think it would be even safe just to make the column updateable with the Y parameter, it will be just the customer choice to change the initial value, but the change will never be done automatically when the fixed option is used.

Say if it is a tangible object which is for sale, the amount can be logically more than one. If it is software license even when software oriented for individual users occationally someone may order more than one license (e.g. another license for a friend or if the license is limited to a single computer - for several computers).

The sticking point was, repeated entries to 2checkout payment page increased the amount, and frequently, a user would think several times before he will pay for a software so the amount would automatically increase and he won’t notice being busy with the fundamental question whether to pay or not :)
