Affiliate Program Query

I was trying to test out the affiliate program introduced following the tutorial found at http://www.2checkout.com/community/blog/tutorials/tutorial-finding-affiliate-opportunities/.

However, I was surprised when clicking on the product name to obtain the affiliate code to just find that all it offer was html to the check out or buy button. Meaning that potential affiliate have to create their own sales page if they want to promote my product?

Or am I wrong? If I’m not, then the affiliate system is definitely faulty.

Pls assist. Thanks.

Because our new integrated affiliate program uses a parameter instead of a cookie to track sales, the affiliate has to promote the product on their site and pass the customer directly into our purchase routine. The program provides the affiliate with the product information, image and HTML snippets so they can promote the product properly on their site.

All right. Is it possible to blend the parameter to direct visitors to the vendor sales page?

I discover that some products don’t even have a description but just an image. It’s rather risky to promote something based on the image alone Craig.

Thanks a lot.

The supplier cannot pass the aff_id parameter for the affiliate. The affiliate will only receive credit if the aff_id parameter is passed from the affiliates site to our purchase routine.

Suppliers have the choice to leave out a description or image if they choose to. However, affiliates will be more willing to promote your product if both an image and detailed description are added.

Forget me for being so blunt, but that’s about the stupidest thing that 2checkout could do in regards to the affiliate program.

I suggest you research how this industry works. Affiliates don’t send people to order pages, because people want to read the site and the sales material for the product BEFORE they make a purchase, so simply sending them directly to the order page won’t work.

You should look at Clickbank, which is currently the leader in this field, and learn from their system.

If you truly want to make 2checkout’s affiliate program a success, you need to set up a system where affiliates can send potential customers to the vendor’s site. If and when the visitor makes the purchase, the affiliate should be credited the sale.

On the technical side of things, this would be very easy (being a programmer myself).

You simply create a link like http://2checkout.com/click/?aff_id=XX&vendor=XX (you could make the URL prettier if you want, again, look at how Clickbank does it) which sets a cookie on the visitor’s browser with the vendor and affiliate ID’s, and redirects him to the vendor’s site.

At the order form, if the product is set up to pay commissions, and the user has a cookie indicating he was referred by an affiliate, credit the commission to that affiliate.

If you still don’t want to program that, at LEAST let the vendors do the proper tracking and insert the corresponding affiliate IDs on their order buttons.

Sincerely,

Sebastian

By the way, I just noticed I said “Forget me” instead of “Forgive me”. Hehe. Sorry, I didn’t really proofread my response before posting it, there might be a few more typos in it.
