Does 2CO have the ability to let my customers fill their carts, send their order to me for a final price (ie, including complicated shipping calculations) then allow me to send it to them for payment? We ship both dry goods, and items that need to be shipped as frozen freight but don’t want to over charge, or confuse customers with strange charges or options. Invoicing might just be an easier option for us. Is this possible?

This isn’t part of our cart’s built-in functionality, but there are no technical or policy restrictions on doing so.
As it is, our Request For Payment feature will allow you to request any specific dollar amount. This feature essentially generates an email with a third-party cart purchase link for the customer to click on.
You may be able to find a custom or third-party shopping cart that will help with this and integrate with your site.
Hopefully, some of our other vendors have experience with this kind of functionality and will post their thoughts.

So if I do not put a shipping feature on there, and a customer places an order, does that mean it won’t charge for shipping, or what exactly will happen? I understand that this cart doesn’t “come” with it, but is there a way that I can manipulate the cart to force it to do something like this? I understand that when one “requests a payment” It generally allows you to only add one item to the “cart”. Since I do not use a third party cart, and I just have my items’ coding placed directly onto my web pages, I’m worried that it’s going to be real complicated. Thanks so much!

One more thing! Is 2CO capable of having customers place an order, then have it be, let’s say, in a “hold” status, where they cannot pay, but I can see what they are purchasing. Then I can use an invoicing software to duplicate the information, and link them to the “request a payment” link that 2CO sends me?

If you send a customer an invoice using 2Checkouts “Request For Payment” shipping will not be calculated or charged automatically by the checkout process. The system will not collect a shipping address for your customer either. This information is only calculated and collected during sales placed for tangible plug and play products. You would need to calculate the shipping cost and add this to the total amount that you set on the invoice. The invoice requires you attach one product from your account to the invoice. The price of that product is not charged and you can set the invoice total to any amount. If you add a tangible product to the invoice this will not cause shipping to be collected as the invoice sale will be considered intangible.
2Checkout does not have a feature that will allow a sale to be placed on hold as you described.

Another option for you to consider is setting up handling charges for the goods that cost more to ship.
Set up the dry goods normally.
Set up shipping with the amount that it would cost to ship dry goods.
For each product that needs to be shipped frozen freight, enter the difference that it will cost to send the frozen product in the Handling field when you are setting up products.
