EUR | British Pound ??? a confusing error

In spurchase page, in the ‘Choose currency and save’ dropdown list, the EUR currency is described as British Pound, which is confusing. Description should be Euro.

Hi Fender123 – You are correct, this description is incorrect. I will put in a request to have this error corrected.

What do you think of the change from the flag images to a drop down for currency selection?

Drop down is better, it is more intuitive to a customer, bearing in mind that customers would not normally be familiar with 2CO purchase pages.

Related to this issue, there is an inconsistency between vendor’s chosen pricing currency and the different default currency that you display. I’m not convinced this increases the chances of order completion, and the latter should be a prime consideration.

For consistency’s sake, you should accept the tco_currency parameter from the vendor, and then let the customer change to local currency only if he wants.

Fender123,

Thank you for your feedback on the new drop down currency menu. We also feel that the new drop down will be bit easier to understand for those customers not familiar with the 2Checkout purchase screens.

I will pass your suggestions to lock the currency based on the tco_currency parameter to our developers for consideration.

For consistency’s sake, you should accept the tco_currency parameter from the vendor, and then let the customer change to local currency only if he wants.

This is exactly what I’ve been saying and asking for soon after 2CO started automatically changing currency based on customer’s IP.

The biggest confusion is when the customer uses PayPal to pay – the customer can easily pay much more than the initial price says as could be charged exchange rated twice. For example a customer from the UK sees USD $100 on the web site, 2CO changes that to GBP (+ currency exchange fee) and the customer, who has a USD PayPal balance, is charged an exchange fee again by PayPal (to convert USD balance to GBP). So he ends up paying US $100 + USD to GBP fee (2CO) + USD balance to GBP fee (PayPal).

It’s not just a far-fetched story, it’s a real life example. Try explaining this to the customer…

Kstirn,

We do understand your concerns on currency conversion based on customers IP location.

With the most recent version of the purchase pages, it is clearer to the customer what currency they are being charged in. The billing currency is more prominently displayed to the customer, and the method to change the currency is much easier to understand.

I will pass you suggestions to our development team for consideration.

This is about Single payment pages:

1) There is a problem with this drop down: on mac and safari and opera browser: the drop down doesn’t stay open and immediately close after being clicked. This prevents customer to chose other currrency. It doesn’t behave like this on firefox.

2) There is also the EUR : BRITISH POUND problem from brought up above.

3) On Firefox / mac, I can’t select US dollars from the drop down: it is not selectable.

last but not least, a suggestion I brought on numerous occasion:

Yes we need to specify TCO_CURRENCY parameter, but we also need TCO_CURRENCY_PRICE, to be able to specify price in that currency.
Currently I forced not to display a price on a currency other than dollar on my site, because this price will NEVER be the same as on actual 2co page because fluctiations in currency prices.
So if I advertise price of a product at 400 brazilian real, because original price is in dollars, conversion might result in other price on tco page. This turns away many customers.
I should be able to set price in any currency, then have your system convert it in actual account currency, not the reverse. All your competitors do this, so should you.

Thanks,
Benj

The issue that you reported has been passed to our developers, who are working to correct it as soon as possible. We will update this thread once the issue has been resolved.

Your request for a currency parameter will be passed to our developers for their consideration. Although it is not currently possible with our system, we will continue to research the possibility of adding support for a currency parameter in the future.

Much appreciated thanks.
Currency parameter simply means you convert back currency value into account currency in the background for processing…. it’s not that esoteric, i’m sure you can do it.
