Shopping Cart/ Store Setup

I have read the help files quite a bit along with the other articles on this site, however I am still having difficulty understanding and setting up my website so that customers can purchase.

Can anyone provide a STEP BY STEP set of DETAILED directions?

It would be so helpful!

Hello Natexp,

Setting up your site can seem like an overwhelming task, although once you understand a little bit about how the process works things are much simpler.

Sales work by the vendor configuring their account and then putting purchase links on their site. When a customer is on a vendor’s site and wants to purchase a product they will click a purchase link and be sent to the purchase pages along with the information about the product they wish to order. Depending on the vendor’s setup the customer may be able to return to the vendor’s site to purchase more products, or the customer can continue through the purchase pages and complete the sale. After the sale is complete the customer can then be returned back to the vendor’s site in a few different methods.

Even with the small example above you can see that there is a certain degree of freedom that vendors have in the purchase process and there is no good way to describe them all to you and the specific details of how to set up your account for each one. Although I’ll describe the most common methods that are available to vendors and how you set it up.

The most common and preferred way that vendor’s have their account set up is with the Plug N Play shopping cart. This method allows vendors to create a shopping cart environment on their site without having to install any software or scripts. All the vendor is required to do is create products inside of their vendor account, create shipping methods if necessary, set up the details of how the customer should be returned and lastly to put purchase links on their site for each of those products.

The second method that 2Checkout.com provides is the with the Third Party Cart or Authorize.net parameter sets. This method is geared towards third party carts/scripts or people who desire to keep most of the purchase process on their site and also a general understanding of HTML and how parameters work. This method it set up much like the first method except that the purchase links need to be manually created and products are not required to be initially created in the vendors account account.

The details of how to set up your account can be found at the link below. This document is 2Checkout.com’s User’s Guide which provides in depth and step by step details of how everything is set up.
