2Checkout & Two-factor Authentication

Security has always been a top priority for 2Checkout. We know that in today’s global economy, strong security features are absolutely essential for protecting businesses and their consumers from the fraud that runs rampant. Our merchants pour so much hard work and passion into building their businesses, and we work tirelessly to ensure their livelihood is protected. This is why we are excited to roll out 2Checkout’s new two-factor authentication feature.

Two-factor authentication is an additional layer of security on top of usernames and passwords. Stealing passwords is easier than most people think. When a “bad guy” steals your password, they can lock you out of your account and wreak havoc. Two-factor authentication means that even if a hacker manages to steal your password, he still needs your phone or security key to get into your account. Merchant: 1, hacker: 0.

With 2Checkout’s two-factor authentication, merchants login to their account and enter their usernames and passwords like normal. They then receive a code through an authentication app like Google Authenticator or Authy. Two-factor authentication only requires one little extra step for significantly enhanced security.

Two-factor authentication is increasingly becoming the norm for online businesses of all kinds—Twitter, Apple, Google, and Facebook have all made it accessible and emphasized its importance to their users. At 2Checkout, we believe businesses of all sizes should benefit from this level of security, especially those dealing with commerce.
